PreK3&4

Kids will be introduced to their ABC's and 123's with age-appropriate developmental activities. There will be lots of stories, songs, and Scripture along the way with crafts and time to play.
The class fee is $20.
K-Gr. 1 Language & Creative Arts

Students are going to have a blast learning how to read, write, and spell through a variety of fun, creative and multi-sensory activities. Students will learn through music, literature, games, and art! Students will rotate through four centers which focus on handwriting, reading and spelling, art, and games. All of these centers will reinforce a daily language arts lesson. Students will have a
short break for snack time in between the two periods. Zoo-phonics curriculum materials will be used. The class fee per student is $20.
K-Gr. 1 Hands-on Science

In this hands-on, fun-filled class we will teach our children about their five senses, the muscles and bones, and the different systems of the body. They will "build" their own body throughout the year! There will also be guest speakers. The class fee per student is $18.00.
Grades 2-5 Art

Students will be encouraged to see how God inspires us to create through His creation. We will review the elements of art and continue our studies with the principles of design. Along the way, students will be introduced to various artistic styles. Class fee: Gr. 2-3 - $20; Gr. 4-5 - $15.

Grades 2-3 Learning Games

We will apply thinking skills and will review spelling, geography, history, and general information in a fun way using a format similar to popular game shows like Jeopardy and The $25,000 Pyramid.

Grades 2-12 Music

ACES Choirs will learn at least 3 songs to perform at the Christmas (Gr. 2-3) and Spring (Gr. 4-12) Concerts. The cost per student is $5 for Gr. 2-3 and $2 for Gr. 4-12.

Grades 4-12 Project Club

Leadership skills will be developed and strengthened as students plan, organize and participate in service projects, fund-raisers, and parties for the entire coop. Ideas for service projects and organizations/individuals to be blessed by the fundraisers are chosen by the students. Some of the special activities occur outside of coop meeting times. In addition, students in Gr. 8-12 will have opportunity to further develop leadership skills through book discussions, projects and presentations, guest speakers, and other activities chosen by the students. There is no class fee.
Grades 4-7 Speech

During the first 6-week session we will have Informative Introductions. The students will pick a historical figure from their home studies to introduce to the class in a biographical sketch that should bring them “to life” as much as possible – giving personal information beyond the scope of the statistics of their accomplishments. For the second 6-week session we will have Demonstrations. The students will demonstrate how to perform an experiment, geographical formations, mathematical problem solving, craft, cooking, etc. This is encouraged to be used as an enhancement to the students’ home studies. For the third 6-week session we will have Persuasive Speech. Students will practice persuasion by developing a simple promotional advertisement in class, then choose a topic to expand into a persuasive speech. As before, outlines will be worked on in class. However, finalizing and practicing at home is strongly encouraged. The class fee is $1 per student.
Grades 6-7 Hands-on Science
Teacher: Veronica Glewwe
Students will learn about the incredible human body and how it functions. In our in-depth study of anatomy and physiology, we will use various activities to examine the major systems and organs, nutrition, and cell structure. Students will need a pencil and 3-ring binder with loose leaf paper for notes and keeping hand-outs. The class fee is $13.
Grades 6-7 Guitar
(Fall 1)
Teacher: Rex Bernardo
Students will learn how to play popular praise and worship songs, hymns, and Christmas songs on an acoustic guitar. Specifically, students will develop calluses on their fingers; become proficient with basic guitar chords; train their fingers to change from one chord to the next; learn a variety of strum patterns; and learn not-so-basic barre chords. Class requirements include a
6-string acoustic guitar and a guitar case ($50-120 at www.musiciansfriend.com); Praise & Worship Guitar Chord Songbook by Hal Leonard Corp. ($12.95); and a tuner and pick ($15-20).
Grades 6-12 Art
(Spring 1)
Teacher: Jeff Hoffman
Batik is a cloth that traditionally uses a manual wax-resist dyeing technique. Batik or fabrics with the traditional batik patterns are found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China, Azerbaijan, India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, and Singapore. Students will create either a wall hanging or possibly garment, e.g., t-shirt, scarf or skirt. Class fee will be $11.00 per student. This will cover tools, dye, wax and other supplies to create a 12x12 wall hanging or scarf size piece. Students will need to provide their own natural fabric i.e.100% cotton or silk. If a larger piece is desired an additional charge for dye may be required.
Biology Lab
Teacher: Chona Bernardo
The class will follow the A Beka Biology curriculum, though students can use any Biology textbook at home. We will cover microscopy, plant structure, human anatomy, animal dissection, and genetics. Students are required to purchase their copy of the A Beka Biology Field & Laboratory
Manual ($16.50). The class fee of $23 per student covers the purchase of dissection
specimens, prepared slides, live specimens, chemicals, and other supplies.
Gr. 8-12 Technical Writing
Teacher: Rex Bernardo
Students will learn skills needed for writing a clear, concise, and informative term paper. Topics include characteristics of good technical writing; ethics, plagiarism, and authorship; writing a title; stating your objectives; citing literature; developing the body of the article; using tables and figures; writing a summary; and proofreading. We will “do” these things in class rather than merely talk about them.
Gr. 8-12 U.S. Constitution
Teacher: Bill Gramer
We will study the following topics: Principles of the U.S. Constitution; key Articles and Amendments;
Founding Fathers' view of differences between a republic and a democracy; and key methods to interpret and live out the Constitution.
Gr. K-12 P.E.
Teachers: Geri Robinette & Wendy Kupser
Students will play hard, get sweaty, and have fun interacting with one another in group games and team sports. They will also participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge.
The class fee is $2.

Study Hall
With written permission from parents, a student can choose to not attend a class and spend his time instead in Study Hall doing his schoolwork. A permission slip should be filled out by a parent. Study Hall is not
intended for students in grades lower than Grade 6. |
